Sailboats (Album Version)
Sailboats wish that they were stars,
\r\nFloating softly in the sky,
\r\nAmong our dreams that bid goodbye.
\r\nMoving through transparent space,
\r\nDrifting through the stratosphere,
\r\nAnd onward ‘til they disappear.
\r\n
\r\nThese continents from overhead,
\r\nLook like tiny paper shapes,
\r\nIntricately set in place.
\r\nBelow the misty mountain clouds,
\r\nThere’s a lovely silver bay,
\r\nWhere sunset sailors often hide away.
\r\n
\r\nScuba diver in the lock,
\r\nSpeedboat driver on the dock,
\r\nSailplane pilot in the blue,
\r\nTake me up there with you.
\r\nThe world looks brighter from this high altitude.
\r\n
\r\nI was walking through the trees,
\r\n(Sailboats wish that they were stars)
\r\nAnd I was swimming through the seas,
\r\n(Cause they don’t know who they are)
\r\nI was falling through the air,
\r\nWhen it hit me right there,
\r\nMy eyes are tired,
\r\nI don’t even care.
\r\n
\r\nAn airplane carried me to bed,
\r\nWhere I slept above the coast,
\r\nAnd dreamt I had become a ghost.
\r\nI sail above the frozen peaks,
\r\nDeep in cold cathedral caves,
\r\nAcross the hills and far beyond the waves.
\r\n
\r\nTake the car on the run,
\r\nFly the jet to the sun,
\r\nAnd bring the spacecraft in soon,
\r\nWhile I play chess with the moon,
\r\nI feel like sleeping through this cold afternoon.
\r\n
\r\nOnce in 1964,
\r\n(Sailboats wish that they were stars)
\r\nAn actress ran on the shore,
\r\n(Cause they don’t know who they are)
\r\nAnd though you’ll never return,
\r\nI love you Audrey Hepburn,
\r\nSometimes I can see your face in the crowd.
\r\n
\r\nThere are sailboats throughout this brilliant sky,
\r\nBut you cannot pick them out if you can’t fly.
\r\nI’m glad the earth doesn’t care if I go up there
\r\nIf you want to, just ask me and I’ll take you along.
